Hi, my name is Michelle Herr, and I am the founder and principal designer of Michelle Herr Interiors. For over 20 years, I have had the privilege of creating homes that feel deeply personal, refined, and truly alive.
I grew up surrounded by design. My mother, a highly respected interior designer for more than four decades, ran her business from a home office filled with fabric samples, floor plans, and beautiful inspiration. As a little girl, I would sit on the floor playing with her textiles and dreaming about the day I would design homes of my own. Every birthday, all I ever wanted was to redesign my bedroom — again.
Although I first earned a degree in political science and psychology and began an internship at a well-known law firm, it didn’t take long to realize my heart was somewhere else. I returned to school to earn my design degree from the Interior Designers Institute in Newport Beach, and soon after began working alongside my mom. Together we designed everything from ground-up construction to full-scale remodels and high-end residential interiors. Learning under her guidance shaped not only my skill set, but my philosophy.
What sets my work apart is simple: I do not design for myself. I design for you.
I believe a home should never feel like a copy-and-paste of a designer’s signature look. Instead, my gift is understanding what makes you feel at home — the colors that energize you, the textures that bring comfort, the details that make your heart happy — and elevating those elements into a cohesive, timeless space with a luxury level of detail and finish. I especially love incorporating color in a way that feels sophisticated and intentional, because a home should feel alive.
Today, I have the joy of working alongside my daughter, Gracie, continuing a legacy of three generations of interior designers. Design has always been woven into our family story, and it is an incredible privilege to now carry that forward together.
At the end of every project, my greatest hope is simple: that you walk into your home and say, “This is so me.”
And I can’t imagine doing anything else.
